You know how different types of birds have different group names other than simply a flock of birds? There's a gaggle of geese, a gulp of comorants, and a raft or paddling of ducks. This week, I wondered if there was a name for a group of leaves. When I searched, I found that a group of leaves is a pile. Which, yeah, okay. But a pile of leaves is on the ground. What about when they are flying on the wind en masse?
That's what happened this week. I was looking out our glass patio door when I saw burnt sienna birds flying toward our home. At least that's what I thought until I realized it was a grouping of leaves. Leaves that had held tight to the oak tree all winter, through many snow and wind storms, were now flitting, bobbing, and floating on the wind. Since then, I keep thinking there should be a name for them. A levitation? A gliding? Or maybe a lift of leaves?
Speaking of birds...
Last weekend, we went to Wausau to visit the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum. Acorn works for the art gallery on UWEC's campus, and some guests who visited while they were working recommended it. The museum's permanent collection is filled with bird-themed art and each year they host a Birds in Art exhibition.

I have more photos that I'd love to show you, but when looking at the bulk of my photos, it's obvious I wasn't feeling 100%. (I've been sick the last week and a half. I'm finally nearing a full recovery.) We are planning to visit again, and I'm glad! I need to return and redeem myself with better photos for myself and my ego, and that will do justice to this lovely museum. ;)
After that, we found our way to a local Korean fusion restaurant, Brokogi, that was fantastic. Our biggest disappointment is that we are already craving their food again, and they are an hour and a half away from us. We will be back!

It was fun having a day trip adventure with Paul and Acorn. And despite being sick, it has been fun over the past couple of weeks, feeling the earliest shifts of the seasons. The red-winged blackbirds and grackles are back, for example. And, now, instead of the hush and quiet of the winter landscape, the morning air is filled with birdsong. I've loved a lot about the winter months, but I am looking forward to spring!
With creativity and hope - here we go.

Oh, PS—I made more progress on my WIP today. I hope to finish it tomorrow and start on some new ideas that are already moving about in my mind's eye.
