One Person Changed My Week

...on creating through uncertainty and finding fuel in connection.

A few days ago, I got a notification: someone had become a paying subscriber.

It might not seem like much — just one person, one quiet click.

But to me, it felt loud. A clear keep going.

In the spaces between family visits and a busy summer, I’ve been moving slowly and quietly—writing, taking online art classes, and following threads of inspiration wherever they lead. I’ve long known that traditional ways of working—especially for someone who’s neurodivergent—aren’t sustainable or healthy. Still, like most of us, I need to work and make a living.

So I’ve started shaping a different kind of work life. And with it, a small business that can hold both who I am and what I hope to offer. Fingers crossed — something authentic. Affirming. Meaningful.

All of this is happening in a world that feels broken and heavy. Every day, the news from the U.S. and around the world is devastating to my heart and mind — violent, unjust, and deeply disorienting. It’s hard to know what to do with all the pain.

But I choose to believe that one healthy response — not the only one, but one — is to keep creating spaces of beauty, reflection, and connection.

To affirm and call attention to what’s still good.

To make room for slowness, for care and healing, for small shared moments that remind us we’re not alone.

This isn’t about escaping the world.
It’s about participating in it — but on new terms.

So this space — No Ordinary Moment — is my digital studio, a slow-growing livelihood, a commitment for what is and can be good in the world, and hopefully, a mirror.

My hope is that in seeing me work, you might glimpse something possible for yourself, too. Whether you’re creating your own art, questioning your path, confused about how to navigate the injustice and pain (I know I am!), or simply trying to find a little respite, you’re welcome here. I’m grateful for your presence.

And to the person who subscribed: thank you.🫶🏻
You reminded me that this work matters. 💛

With creativity and hope,
Janece
